Admissions
Policy
How do I get an application?
Applications
for admission are available August 1st, one year prior to the students
enrollment. Please call the school making sure you give us your childs
birth date, grade level, address, and phone number. We limit the number
of applications accepted into our applicant pool depending on the number
of projected openings at each grade level. Therefore, it is important
to return completed applications in a timely fashion since we fill our
applicant pool on a first come-first served basis.
We will be processing seventy Kindergarten boy applications and seventy
Kindergarten girl applications. Applications should be accompanied
by a copy of your child's birth certificate, a $125.00 processing fee, and returned, by regular mail, no earlier than Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Please do not postmark any application before this date. We are required to return them if they are postmarked before September 17, 2008. We do not accept Fed-Ex, faxed, or drop-off applications.
What
birth date
qualifies a
candidate for
a particular
class?
In order to
apply to our Kindergarten, boys must be five,
by June 1st and girls by September 1st, the year the student
is entering the school.
The number
of new students accepted at
JTD varies depending on
the number of applicant
siblings of present students,
faculty children, and openings
made available
through attrition. Our three
Kindergarten classes have
a total of forty-two
students. Each class consists
of fourteen students and two
teachers.
There are two classes for
each grade level, first through
sixth grades
and twenty-one to twenty-four
students with two teachers
in each class.
In the first through sixth
grades the number of new students
varies
according to openings and
qualifications of each year's
applicants.
Do you have a sibling
policy?
We do consider ourselves
a family school
and will try, whenever
possible, to keep families
together. Siblings of
present students and
children of those legacy
families who have sustained
a positive relationship
with our school
since graduating will
be given preference
once they have met the
admissions requirements.
In addition, the school's
policy is that
it may accept up to
40% new families in
the Kindergarten grade.
Upon what do you base
admission?
Admission is decided
by a thorough assessment
of the child's
developmental readiness,
academic ability, previous
school record, and performance
on testing administered
at our school. School-developed
evaluations are used
for Kindergarten through
First grade and the
Educational Records
Bureau Comprehensive
Testing Program is used
for grades second through
sixth. They are given
to determine the applicant's
readiness and ability
to achieve success in
our program when compared
to the students presently
attending our school.
Yet, testing is only a part of our evaluation. Our classes are composed of many different types of students who bring their own strengths and gifts to share with us all. Interviews with parents and students help us get to know you. We will interview parents at the Kindergarten level and interview parents and students at the First through Sixth grade levels.
Do you have tours available?
Tours for prospective parents are held every day throughout the months of April and May each year. Simply contact the admissions office after the first of each year to schedule a time. Observations are limited to those families included in the applicant pool. Once you have received our letter informing you your child is part of our applicant pool, we encourage you to come to campus and observe any grade level, not just the grade level of your child. We believe it is very important for our applicant families to understand and feel comfortable with The John Thomas Dye School. The only way to get to know us is to see us in action.
What will it cost to
send my child to John
Thomas Dye?
Tuition for the 2008-2009 school year is $20,800 Kindergarten
through Sixth grade. Required
uniforms are extra.
Do you offer financial
aid? The School, through the generosity
of alumni, parents, and friends, has established a major endowed financial
aid fund: The Dye Family Scholarship Fund. A portion of the interest
earnings from this source, along with the one-time $2,000 new student
fee, provides money for financial aid. John Thomas Dye awards over a quarter of a million dollars a year in aid.
If a family would like
to request financial aid, simply check the appropriate box on the back of the
application for admission. A Financial Aid Packet, including complete
instructions on how to apply for aid, and the financial aid timetable,
will be mailed to parents in early December. The usual admissions application
fee of $125 is waived for financial aid applicants.
Financial aid awards
are based primarily
on the following criteria: The familys need as reported by the School Scholarship Service
The students scholastic achievement
The students
ability to contribute
to and benefit
from the school
program
