Week of May 5-9

This week, May 5-9, 2008, we will be completing our oviparous animal projects and our hard covered stories. Our silkworms are rapidly growing larger daily.
There will be final practices for our Poetry Reading and Computer Presentations. You need to work on memorizing the words because your special presentation is on Friday. We hope to see your parents at the presentation so they can see all your hard work.
Hope everyone had a fabulous time at the Fair. We thank everyone who worked so hard for our school. Every dollar’s worth of tickets that you sold goes toward helping JTD. Thank you for all your work as well as your parents’ hard work.
A reminder that our class sleep over is June 6th. We will be talking more about it in class. You will be coming back to school that night at 7:00 all dressed in your jammies. You will need to eat before returning. A note will soon be coming home explaining all about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

• Monday:

1. Reading and Writing book 2...Work pages 24, 25, 30 and 31. Be sure and read the directions carefully. If it has more than two step directions, it is helpful to number the steps to do.

2. May Book orders- our last ones of the year. Turn it in by Friday and get some good summer reading choices.

3. Note on spelling strategies- keep this at home and it will help you figure out challenging words.

Tuesday:

1. Tonight you will bring home your oviparous animal project and work on the 'menu' page. You will tell which foods you animal would be most likely to eat. Remember to think about what you have learned about your animal. You get  to pretend your animal is having a five course meal... what might it like as an appetizer??

2. Information sheet on how to tell the difference between moths and butterflies for you to keep. Read the sheet and see what you already knew, and what you learned. Remember the information and you will be able to see the traits that our silkworms have when they become moths!

Wednesday

1. Math pages 383 and 384 in chapter 10. There is also one sheet that goes with chapter 9 on basic facts.

2. You will have extra time tonight so be sure to practice your math facts to 20, telling time to the half hour and review counting money.

3. Field trip permission slip for our Natural History Museum trip next week.

• Thursday:

1. Tonight you will do the last 'story' for your house project. Your stories will look amazing when we put them all together. Tonight you will be writing about your favorite book that we read in first grade. Think all the way back to September and remember which one you really enjoyed the most. Remember to use good details and put effort into your illustration.

• Friday:

**Poetry Presentation this morning, 8:30a.m. to 9:30 a.m.**

1. Be ready for those tricky list 23 spelling words for your test today.

The sleep over is fast approaching on June 6th We are planning on everyone attending and all the teachers who are chaperoning are very excited. We will continue to talk at school and answer all those concerns. It is THE MOST FUN!!

This Sunday is the very special day, Mother’s Day. Moms do so many thoughtful and caring things for you without ever complaining. Be sure that you plan something extra special for mom. She is continually doing something special for you. Make mom’s day the best day she has ever had, and you will likewise have the best day with her.

Spelling words for list 23: room, school, stool, broom, spoon, animal, under, don't, can't. the words with oo in them all have the excited sound like oo. The other words are sight words we use daily. Can't and don't are tricky because they are the contractions for can not and do not. Don't forget the apostrophe.
