Welcome to our Kindergarten Homework Page.
It was so nice to see everyone last Friday on conference day. As you can tell by our conferences, all of the children are doing so well. We are so proud of them.
We are busy getting ready for the fair. Mrs. Goland and Ms. Won are teaching the children a hawaiian chant. The children will perform the chant for the opening of the JTD Fair. THE KINDERGARTEN CLASSES OPEN THE FAIR AND WILL HAVE TO BE TO SCHOOL AT 9:45 ON FAIR DAY.
We are beginning our planting unit this week. We will be planting a variety of vegetables and plants and turning our room into a garden.
Just a reminder the Anthologies will only be going home on Mondays and Wednesdays. On those nights the children will re-read what they have read in class. At this point, the vocabulary in the book is all review for the children. Please understand, while the books are easy to decode, new skills are covered in each story and we are delving much deeper into comprehension strategies and skills. The simple text allows the children to learn the higher level skills and build a strong foundation.
The second semester homework is a little bit different. The children will continue to have reading words to write, but after they write the words, they are to write complete sentences with capital letters and punctuation in their reading word journals. Marcie Cook math materials will also be sent home each week. These are more hands-on activities than in the past. As in the first semester, the written work will be sent home on Monday and is due back on Friday. The children will bring home a reading book each night. The anthologies will come home on Monday and Wednesday and supplemental books will be sent home on Tuesday and Thursday. The reading books are always due back the next day. Thank you for all of your help at home.
Our country for April will be South Korea. If you have anything that you would like to share with the class about South Korea, please let us know.
Throughout the year, please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. You're welcome to call or email at any time.
On Mondays, the homework for the week will be sent home and should be returned on Friday. It is your choice when the papers are to be completed unless otherwise specified. It is very important that you establish a homework routine with your child - the same time and place each day. The written homework should take no more than 5 or 10 minutes per page. Please make sure your child does Kindergarten quality work.
Another part of homework for the children is to bring sharing to school. Monday is "free choice sharing". The children may bring anything they want on Monday. Tuesday through Friday is "assigned sharing". The assigned sharing will match the "letter of the week".
Thank you for your help.
