• Week of May 12-16, 2008

This week we will begin Literature Circles.  This exciting, cooperative learning activity will require the children to exercise responsibility to read each evening and complete their literature circle job for the following school day. Some evenings they will also have a math assignment to complete.  It is important that the students utilize their after school time so that they may thoroughly and neatly complete their homework.  This experience will also help prepare them for the homework assigned in the fourth grade.

Finally, each literature circle will determine their own Spelling list.  The children in each of the 4 groups will receive their group's list each Friday, but we will not have a formal Spelling packet sent home for Monday's homework.  Beginning next Monday, the 17th, the students will be responsible to independently study throughout the week for their Spelling test on Friday.

—Please remember, your homework is designed to provide you an extra opportunity to independently practice the skills and concepts taught in school.  You are encouraged to carefully complete and check over your homework and always feel free to consult a "helper" when necessary. Remember it is your responsibility to pack your own "Take Home Folder" and back pack and return your completed homework on time.

Also, it is a good idea to study your spelling words and practice writing them in cursive, and study your division facts each night for 5 to 10 minutes.

End your day with a good book!  Snuggle up and practice your oral reading for a page or two and then read silently for 20 minutes.  The more you read, the better reader you'll be! :0)
