Aphrodite

Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, could be
very cruel. One way she was harsh was when the women of Astypalaea claimed
they were more beautiful than her and she did not take criticism well,
especially when it was about her beauty. She made all the women of Astypalaea
grow cow horns to make sure they all knew she was prettier than them. Another
time was when the King of Athens named Aegus refused to glorify Aphrodite.
Therefore, Aphrodite made a decision that Aegus would remain childless until
he and his city idealized. Finally Aegus agreed to have Athens worship
Aphrodite, and his punishment of not having any children was taken away. From
this reading about AphroditeÕs ruthless behavior, you can tell she loves
being complimented all the time and wants everything to go her way. For those
reasons Aphrodite is not a girl you want to mess with. |
