Even though the god of love Eros can make people love and hate each other, he was also a very caring person. Aphrodite, ErosÕs mother, was getting very jealous of Psyche, a beautiful goddess. She planned to play a cruel and embarrassing trick on her. She explained her plot to Eros about how he was going to shoot an arrow at Psyche while she was sleeping and when she woke up, she would fall in love with the first person she saw, a very unattractive one. Eros did not like this trick at all. He thought it was too mean and evil to do. He told his mother that, but she threatened him into doing it anyway. He showed Aphrodite his caring side, but she forced him to shoot the arrow at Psyche, even though it was against ErosÕs will. Also ErosÕs compassionate side showed up when he finally was pushed to go to the sleeping Psyche. When he got there he silently opened the door to her room. He didnÕt want to awake Psyche or hit her with an arrow. He took the dullest arrow he had and gently rubbed the arrow against her soft shoulder. He felt sorry for what his mother had made do, that he decided not to shoot another arrow at a person for a very long while. In that period of time, nothing would grow, people were unhappy, there were no marriages, no babies were born, AphroditeÕs temples were all empty, and her altars were unadorned. Finally, Aphrodite asked Eros what he wanted so all the people would be happy again. Eros exclaimed he wanted Psyche to be unharmed since he cared for her so much. In conclusion, Eros was a very caring person by not doing cruel things and caring for the person he loved, Psyche.
