Arion, a
demi-god born from Poseidon and a Naiad, was extremely blessed. He was
blessed by Apollo with the gift of music and therefore became the best
musician in the world and won every competition he entered. Arion also was
forced to jump off a ship so the captain and crew could take his winning
prizes but was saved by dolphins when he jumped off. A pod of dolphins
happened to pass by and hear his singing. Then, because the singing was so
beautiful, the dolphins carried him back to his homeland. Finally when he
died, he was put into the stars as a constellation with the dolphin that
saved him, and his lyre. Only the most favored mortals get the privilege to
live among the stars forever. From these three examples, it is obvious that
Arion was very fortunate. |
