The
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten program is interwoven with various social studies themes. The classroom displays reflect the present theme, which allows the children to be fully immersed in the subjects. All lessons are presented using auditory, visual and kinesthetic methods considering developmental and gender differences.
Pre-reading and early reading skills are taught based on phonics. Phonemic awareness, phonic based word attack skills, long and short vowels, comprehension with different literature genres, and reading for pleasure are covered. Daily writing is also a component of the reading program.
The mathematics
program includes:
patterns, counting,
measuring, comparing,
time, money, problem
solving, addition,
subtraction, fractions
and enrichment
opportunities.
Manipulative materials
are used and are
an important aspect
of the daily experience.
The children
attend performing
arts (music, instruments and movement), science,
technology, physical
education, library,
and visual art
classes each week
taught by specialists.
The Kindergarten program emphasis is socially driven and character development is an important component to the core teaching. Service learning is a key part to this theme which is entwined with our school- wide 5 C's program.
