Tribute to John Thomas Dye III

John Thomas Dye III was born in Akron, Ohio, on the morning of January 24, 1923. He was named in honor of his father and great-grandfather of the same name.
John Thomas Dye III was a very good tennis player and won many tournaments. In the late 1930's he was on the Junior Davis Cup Team, the Wilmington Team and was Champion in Southern California. He was known as the west coast star. jtd_parents
He not only played tennis, but he was a forward for his varsity basketball team at Pomona College. He was one of the top scorers, and even had many articles written about him for scoring the most points. He also won an award for best comedy in a play writing competition. He never forgot to study and was head of his class. He was extremely intelligent, and was an advanced student in school.
John Thomas Dye died in World War II while serving as a Lieutenant in the Fifteenth Air Force in the European theater. lt.jtd3
On February 1,1929 a school was founded. The founders are Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Dye II. The school was called the Brentwood Town and Country School. Years later, after their son's death, they renamed it the John Thomas Dye School in honor of their son.
