The Library
The Library
JTD Greyhounds enhance their learning by enjoying books from the School's Library.
The Library offers more than 15,000 books and online resources to students, and hundreds of new volumes are added to the collection each year! Our School Librarian promotes lifelong literacy and a love of reading by helping students find books to enjoy both at school and at home in the School's extensive collection. Additionally, she works collaboratively with classroom and specialist teachers to support units of study, curriculum objectives, and student learning.
Deliberately Designed
Students in Grades K-4 visit the Library as a class once per cycle, and students in Grades 5-6 visit the Library to exchange books and conduct research.
The Library itself is an engaging learning space, with both large areas for class gatherings, and nooks and small group workspaces where students can dig into a new book!
In the Library, students learn about the power of books. Our Librarian introduces students to a variety of authors and shares stories from different cultures in order to foster the development of personal identity while also helping students gain appreciation for the diverse world they live in. During their time in the Library, students learn essential skills: locating books and online resources, identifying reading genres, conducting research, and, of course, appreciating the importance of books and writing. Library information skills are interwoven with our Reader’s Workshop curriculum to help students learn to engage in the process of becoming fluent readers and thinkers.

Each year, the Parents' Association Library Committee works with the School Librarian to coordinate an annual book fair, book dedications, and regular visits from notable authors. These special activities enhance our students' education experience and foster a lifelong love of reading!
