Computers and related technologies are tools for learning, creating, and teaching. This is the major principle behind the philosophy of technology and computer-use at JTD.
We are a Google Suite for Education school. Each student in grades 1 through 6 have an account. In the lab, K - 4 students learn to use Google applications for writing, research, communication, presentation, and digital art skills. Subjects and topics for projects in the lab are taken from core classroom units of study, science, and schools values. In the classrooms, students use the skills learned in the lab to complete assignments. GSFE has been a tremendous boost to the students' learning and organizational skills.
Coding and robotics are also learned in the lab.
We use
Common Sense Education's curriculum to teach digital citizenship.
Through the lessons, students come to know the components that comprise a personal and networked computer system, gain a basic understanding of the way computers work, and learn management of the graphical interface.
Keyboarding is formally taught in Grade 3. The students in kindergarten through Grade 2 are taught lead-up keyboarding exercises in preparation for Grade 3.
