The goal of the inSTED program at JTD is to spark innovation, joy, and curiosity through the integration of science, technology, engineering, and design.
The Science program at JTD is designed to help students develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts and inquiry skills through hands-on activities, interactive simulations, and other inquiry-based learning materials. By using these methods, our teachers strive to make learning science engaging and interactive for students, while increasing their motivation and interest in the subject. Grounded in the Amplify Science Program, the curriculum covers topics such as physical science, life science, and earth and space science, while aligning with the Next Generation Science Standards.
Our Technology program fosters creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, meaningful connections and stimulation through high-expectations projects across curricular and at all grade levels.

When students come to inSTED, they have 1:1 access to MacBooks and iPads, as well as a variety of cutting edge tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, Lego EV3 Robotics kits, Sphero and Indi robots, Dash robots, and various interactive supplies. Students in Grades 4-6 receive individual Chromebooks or Macbooks for use throughout all academic classes. Grades K-3 have access to MacBooks and iPads within their homerooms to further enhance academic technology skills.
The Engineering Design process is integrated throughout the inSTED curriculum, and students are provided opportunities to engage in engineering design challenges that are related to the scientific concepts they are learning. Students engage in various simulations, interactive activities, and visualizations that are designed to help students understand the connection between science and engineering, and how engineers use scientific principles to design and build structures, machines, and other systems.

Design challenges are designed to be hands-on and inquiry-based, which allows students to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world problems. Students are encouraged to think critically, work collaboratively, and use the engineering design process to design and test solutions to the challenges they are presented with.
