Student Council

Student leadership is developed both within and outside the classroom.
JTD has an active student government supervised by two faculty members and the Upper School Division Director. It is offered only to fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. Within the Student Council, there are sixteen representatives, and three officers elected: president, vice-president, and secretary. All candidates campaign and give speeches to their peers in a school wide assembly prior to the election. The student body is then given the opportunity to vote for the candidates of their choice in our annual Student Council election hosted each fall.

The Student Council coordinates, plans, and implements all student assemblies and school wide charitable activities. The representatives and officers hold weekly meetings to discuss and plan charitable fund raisers. Each year they are responsible for hosting the annual Halloween haunted house, the Thanksgiving canned food drive, and the Valentine’s Day bake sale. Throughout the year, the council members are also responsible for hosting school wide assemblies including the Halloween costume parade, Veterans Day assembly, Grandparents/Special Friends Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Memorial Day to help draw awareness to our extended community.
