The John Thomas Dye School Physical Education and Athletic Department’s philosophy of team athletics is to allow for maximum playing time for all athletes. This is done through fielding as many teams as necessary to accomplish that goal. In addition, we feel that multiple skill levels enable all our student athletes to achieve success and a positive self-image. Instruction of fundamentals, strategies, and team practices work in conjunction with our P.E program.
The emphasis of the athletics program is participation, sportsmanship, teamwork, effort, and the development of athletic skills. This type of program enables our student athletes to experience friendly competition and prepares them for secondary school athletics. The students strive to do their best while learning the pleasures and challenges of competition. They develop self-respect for doing their best and learn that winning and losing are part of life. Both experiences can be beneficial for personal and emotional growth. Recognition is always given for strong effort, regardless of the outcome.
The athletic department has five specialized full time P.E. teachers who have a combined total of over eighty years of teaching and coaching experience.
