Making a gift of stock allows you, the donor, to take the full market value of the securities as a charitable deduction. You are likely not liable for the capital gains tax, nor is The John Thomas Dye School, as the School is a non-profit and does not pay capital gains tax. When making a gift of securities to JTD, make sure you give the stock, not the proceeds from the sale.
The most efficient method of donating appreciated securities is a direct transfer via DTC from your brokerage account to that of the school.
