The Salutation of the Dawn

Every morning, before classesstart, theentire studentbody and facultygather onthe lawn.  While facing the American Flag and overlooking the cityof Los Angeles and Catalina Island, the School community literally raises its arms toward thesun and recites "TheSalutationof the Dawn," which is taken fromthe Sanskrit.  While reciting this ancientpoem, all members of the community think of ways to make the day as fulfilling as it can be.  The following words are spoken:

Listen to the Exhortation of the Dawn:

Look to this Day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course lie all the verities
And realities of your existence:

The splendor of beauty,
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action.

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.

But today, well lived, makes
Every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this Day!
Such is the Salutation of the Dawn.
